Sunday Best | Polyface Farm

Fall 2025

A farm tour, a magazine assignment, and Joel Salatin in his Sunday best holding a chicken. That’s a little glimpse of our visit to Polyface Farm!

In the fall of 2025, a magazine hired us to photograph and film this family farm in Swoope, Virginia. We got to tour the property with our cameras and capture some of the people, animals, and work that make up life at Polyface.

The Salatin family has farmed here in the Shenandoah Valley since 1961. Their approach centers on caring for the soil and working with natural patterns, moving livestock and poultry to fresh pasture as part of the farm’s daily rhythm. From grass-fed cattle to pastured chickens, turkeys, and pigs, there was plenty to tell through photographs and film.

And then there was that portrait of Joel, dressed for Sunday with a chicken in his arms. Take a look at some of the moments we captured during our day at the farm below.
